PAY IT FORWARD

Aug 28, 2014

Grimes Finishings Limited were recently involved in the donation of a large selection of food to Birmingham Central Foodbank. Grimes Finishings are the Drylining and Ceiling contractor working on the new Perry Beeches school site, for Morgan Sindall. The site itself is opposite a local foodbank. Morgan Sindall's Project Manager, Tony Fitzgerald introduced Grimes Finishing’s Managing Director, Richard Grimes and Contracts Manager, Rob Harriman to the organisation and together they delivered food personally to the foodbank.

Based in Ladywood, in central Birmingham the project is led by Birmingham Christian Centre working together with other local churches and agencies providing emergency food for local people in crisis. The foodbank relies on food donations to help feed local people who desperately need it. In Birmingham there are families and individuals struggling to put food on the table, for many, a sudden crisis, redundancy, benefit delay or even an unexpected bill – can mean going hungry. Birmingham Central Foodbank provides emergency food and support to these people.

Richard was delighted that Tony introduced him to such a worthy cause, he said 'It's hard to imagine that in a thriving and busy city like Birmingham in this day and age that people still don’t have enough to eat. It's a great leveller when you get involved in something like this to see how much of a difference we can all make to people's lives by donating something as simple as food, which many of us take for granted. The staff at the foodbank do a superb job and donating like this is something that is easy to do and can be very beneficial to so many people. I thank Tony for introducing me to this organisation and reminding me just how lucky I am. Donating like this is something I will definitely be doing it again.'

The foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust‘s UK-wide network of over 100 foodbanks. The initiative is run by local churches across inner city Birmingham (including Ladywood, Edgbaston, Winson Green, Spring Hill and Hockley) working together alongside grass root community organisations, statutory agencies, frontline care professionals, schools and  businesses.
